Caballero

This series of images was done for a (2007-2008) creator owned project that I was supposed to do the art on. Looking back on it there were some really nice drawing elements in the character designs that make me regretful that I never followed through with this project. The plot and characters were created by @Manuel Arreaga and as I recall this was meant to be a western with a more Clint Eastwood sort of lead as the Feature of this story but I rolled in a messed everything up by giving Sam Rane definitively Mexican aesthetics. Manny was cool with this but I really should have asked his permission to create on top of his idea.

I had Danny Trejo on my mind when thinking about Sam Rane and his features and aesthetics. He’s a very intimidating looking and I thought that he fit well for the form and function of the character in my mind. Check out the Machette series of films to see what I’m talking about . . . “Machette don’t tweet”.

Looking back at these drawings I’m reminded of the potential of this script and it’s characters and I’m regretful that I was not able to follow through. I’ve picked up the 8 page script several times in the last decade with the intention of getting this one done and let it slide every time. Perhaps I’ll get to it one day esepcially seeing how page 1 was coming along. . . . I have no idea where that page is LOL. Maybe one day @erik_arreaga!
